Special Award: Chris Elwell and Jackie Eley

The Fringe Theatre Awards would like to congratulate and give a Special Award to Chris Elwell and Jackie Eley for 27 years of transformative theatre.

In January 2025 Chris Elwell stepped down as Director/CEO of Half Moon Theatre, with Jackie leaving her role as Administrative Director. With a combined 47 years of service, they have together overseen exceptional achievements, the Half Moon now one of the most exceptional exciting and transformative participatory theatres in the UK, often serving those most excluded from the arts.

Chris has directed, written and adapted outstanding, award-winning work for young people and has an MBE for services to theatre. Jackie has worked tirelessly to promote access, innovation and environmental sustainability, also helping fundraise £2m to buy and refurbish the venue. She additionally fronted the launch of a Theatre Passport free ticket initiative within Tower Hamlets, supporting underrepresented community and school groups.
